Hickory - Sand
Hickory combines strength, hardness, and toughness unmatched by all other
North American species. HIckory has a closed grain with moderate definition and
beautiful character marks such as tight knots, dark heartwood / white sapwood,
and black worm tracks. Hickory expands and contracts more than most woods,
so slight gaps between flooring boards or slight cupping are common during
extremely dry periods.
Color: Hickory Sand stain color mellows out the differences between heartwood
and sapwood. It makes the plainer grain of the sapwood more distinct, result in
an overall tone that does not show the stark differences seen in Natrual Hickory
yet preserves the full character for
which Hickory is loved. Worm tracks can be
black, adding to its popular rustic look. We also include some darker color
sound knots in our Country Grade.
