Hickory
Hickory combines strength, hardness, and toughness unmatched by all other
North American species. HIckory has a closed grain with moderate definition and
beautiful character marks such as tight knots, dark heartwood / white sapwood,
and black worm tracks. Hickory expands and contracts more than most woods,
so slight gaps between flooring boards or slight cupping are common during
extremely dry periods.
Color: Hickory heartwood is tan or reddish. Sapwood is white to cream color with
fine brown lines. There are often pronounced color differences between spring
wood and summer wood. Worm tracks can be black, adding to its popular rustic
look. We also include some darker color sound knots in our Country Grade.
