American Walnut
American Walnut is American's most prize hardwood and is used for
very fine furniture as well as high end flooring. It is only 80% as hard as
Red Oak. While suitable for normal residential use, it is not so suitable
for high traffic areas, houses with big dogs, commercial applications,
or for consumers who will be bothered by denting. All wood will dent,
Walnut just more than most.
Color: The heartwood of Walnut is dark brown, while the sapwood is creamy
color. Steaming reduces this difference, and over time the darker heartwood
will lighten up to a more golden brown.
